E-BIKE TEST BENCH FOR CE MARKING OF YOUR ELECTRIC ASSISTED BICYCLES (E-BIKES)
E-bikes - Compliance with standard EN 15194
Why carry out EMC, electrical safety, radio... and even performance tests?
The regulations governing electric bicycles (e-bikes) in Europe are based on a set of technical directives and harmonised standards designed to ensure user safety and product compliance with single market requirements.
The CE marking, which symbolises this compliance, involves the strict application of several European legislative texts, including the Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC), Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive (2014/30/EU), Low Voltage Directive (2014/35/EU) and RED (2014/53/EU).
The EN 15194 standard plays a central role in defining the technical specifications for e-bikes, in particular the limitation of motor power to 250 W and the interruption of electric assistance above 25 km/h.
Please note: The Radio Equipment Directive (RED) 2014/53/EU applies to e-bikes equipped with wireless communication systems (Bluetooth, GPS, etc.), requiring them to comply with radio spectrum standards. Specific tests are required, potentially necessitating the involvement of Emitech Certification as a Notified Body.
Why set up an e-bike test bench?
Our test bench is equipped to measure speed, power and torque on different axes. It can simulate a wide variety of human pedalling styles, enabling e-bike control at several standardised operating points.
This bench allows us to test any type of electric-assisted bicycle.
It is adaptable and allows us to adjust numerous parameters, such as the position of the motor, located either on the front or rear hub or in the bottom bracket, as well as the mode of activation of the pedal assistance, which can be triggered by simple detection of crank rotation or torque detection at the bottom bracket, or a combination of both.
Our test bench allows us to evaluate the performance of the e-bike entrusted to our laboratory while it is undergoing the tests required by the EN 15194 standard: EMC emission and immunity tests, functional tests, etc.
Characteristics of the bench for e-bikes
- The bench can accommodate:
- 20 to 28-inch e-bikes
- Longtail e-bikes and cargo e-bikes after feasibility analysis
- Mobile aluminium profile frame
- Synchronisation of front and rear wheels via a belt mechanism
- 3 independent motors: front wheel / rear wheel / crankset
- Torque measurement: front wheel / rear wheel / crankset
- Simulation of a load from 0 to 500W
- Speed or torque control
- Synchronous or asynchronous wheel management
- Electromagnetically neutral in the 30MHz-1GHz band
- HMI based on the PULSAR software developed by our teams
