EMC / Electromagnetic Compatibility testing
Validate the ability of equipment to operate as expected in its electromagnetic environment
Understanding Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)
The aim of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) is to ensure that electrical and electronic equipment does not cause harmful interference or itself suffer disturbance in the presence of electromagnetic emissions. EMC
testing is therefore essential to guarantee the regulatory compliance and performance of a wide variety of products, from everyday appliances to critical systems used in the automotive, aeronautical, rail, space and defence industries. They are also required for medical and professional devices.
Why call on the Emitech Group for your EMC tests?
Our specialist EMC laboratories are equipped to meet the requirements of international and European standards. We support you in qualifying and ensuring compliance of your products by providing:
- Advanced infrastructures: Faraday cages, semi-anechoic chambers (SAC) and full-anechoic chambers (FAR), mode-shuffling reverberation chambers (CRBM), free-space sites.
- Instrumentation that pushes back the limits:
- For regulatory requirements: radiated emission up to 110 GHz, conducted emission, radiated immunity up to 6 GHz (and up to 30 V/m at 3m, conducted immunity, fast burst transients, electrostatic discharges, shock waves, voltage variations, voltage dips, short interruptions, flickers, harmonics, etc.).
- For the most demanding qualifications: radiated emission from 10 kHz to 40 GHz, conducted emission, radiated immunity up to 40 GHz (up to 3000 V/m in CW and up to 10000 V/m pulsed between 1 and 18 GHz), electrical tests of all kinds, electrostatic discharges, indirect lightning.
- Recognised technical expertise: Within the framework of CE marking (EMC 2014/30/EU, RED 2014/53/EU directives ..), defence (MIL-STD / STANAG standards), aeronautics (RTCA-DO160).
- Personalized support: Assistance with qualification and certification strategies.
- Solutions tailored to each sector: Automotive, rail, aerospace, defense, medical, and many others.
The Emitech Group has the largest number of Faraday cages in Europe, as well as one of the largest, enabling it to test vehicles on its chassis dynamometer, as well as systems weighing in excess of 40 tonnes.
What sectors are involved in these trials?
Automotive, rail and marine
EMC validation of vehicles, on-board systems and electronic equipment in accordance with sectoral standards and international regulations (R10, CISPR, ISO).
Aeronautics, defence and space
Full electromagnetic qualification to RTCA DO-160, MIL-STD and manufacturers' standards, including lightning, HIRF and high-frequency immunity tests.

Transfer impedance and shielding efficiency tests
- Assessment of the shielding performance of cables, connectors and materials (metallic or composite).
- Measurement of transfer impedance to characterise the coupling of conducted interference.
- Measurement of shielding efficiency to quantify the attenuation of electromagnetic fields.
- Tests carried out in accordance with current standards for all sectors (defence, space, rail, electric vehicles) from 0 to 40 GHz.
