Amendment to the list of harmonised standards under the EMC Directive

Normes harmonisées

Following the Commission’s Implementing Decision (EU) 2021/455, the Official Journal of the European Union dated 15 March 2021 has updated the list of harmonised standards applicable under the EMC Directive 2014/30/EU.

EU declarations of conformity must be updated with the relevant standards to reflect these changes where they apply to your equipment.

The standards that have been updated for the EMC Directive include:

  • EN IEC 60947-5-2:2020
  • EN 55035:2017 / AMD11:2020
  • End of EN 55024:2010 in September 2022!

Please note that AMD11 adds an informative Annex Z (ZZ for Cenelec) to establish the link between the standard and the essential requirements of Directive 2014/30/EU.

The role of the Annex

Harmonised standards must include informative ‘Z’ annexes (or ‘ZZ’ for CENELEC) clearly specifying which essential requirements of the applicable directives are addressed therein.

The European Commission wishes that, in the case of standards published by CEN, this should preferably take the form of detailed tables specifying which passages of the standards address which requirements of the directives.

If it is not possible, in a given standard, to address all relevant requirements – whether due to a lack of knowledge or a lack of consensus – it must then be clearly stated which essential requirements are covered, and which are not

Engaging a Notified Body enables compliance with these requirements to be validated.
