Drones – New requirements 2019/945 & EN 4709: get ready for 2027

Règlement drones / UAS

UAS regulations are set to undergo significant changes between now and 2027, with direct impacts on your drones (design, certification, marketing).

  • EN 4709-x standards, a clearer timeline: EN 4709-001 and -003 are expected in March, EN 4709-004/-005/-006/-007 in June, and EN 4709-008 in early 2027.
  • Towards enhanced safety and security: planned extension of registration to all drones equipped with cameras, mandatory Remote ID, possible takeoff block if the operator number is incorrect.
  • EASA is preparing new standard scenarios (up to SAIL II), with reduced C5/C6 requirements but maintaining compatibility with existing drones, and an agricultural C7 STS under consideration.
  • Type, Model, UA Type... essential clarifications for your certificates: it is now confirmed that the Type will be the unique identifier for your products, linked to the same technical file, EU type examination certificate, and EU declaration of conformity, while the Model will be used to distinguish commercial variants within the same Type.
  • Certificates will also include the UA Type as defined in EN 4709-002, disseminated via remote identification, and the introduction of a certificate validity period is under consideration.
