Fine tuning tests for powertrains
Fine-tune the settings and validate the overall behaviour of your engines
Aims of the fine tuning tests
- Optimise engine control strategies: injection, ignition, torque, hybridisation, etc.
- Adjust control laws to meet consumption, performance or comfort objectives.
- Validate compatibility between components (engine, gearbox, inverter, battery).
- Reduce pollutant emissions and improve thermal management.
- Prepare for homologation or industrialisation.
What types of powertrain are involved?
- Thermal (ICE-D/G, MHEV, e-fuels, H2, NH3): engine calibration, injection/ignition mapping, thermal management.
- Hybrids (HEV, PHEV): thermal/electric coordination, mode transition management.
- Electrics (BEV, FCEV): servo optimisation, recovery strategy, torque response.
Test methodology
1. Preparation and instrumentation
- Integration of the powertrain on a motorised test bench.
- Instrumentation of key quantities: temperature, torque, power, pressure, voltage, current.
- Interface with calibration tools (ETAS INCA, CANape, etc.).
2. Mapping and calibration
- Recording of engine operating curves (fine tuning torque, fuel consumption, efficiency).
- Tests under different conditions: temperature, simulated altitude, variable load.
- Adjustment of engine or hybrid management tables.
- Validation of operating stability and reproducibility.
3. Dynamic validation
- Transient tests (acceleration, deceleration, speed changes).
- Analysis of powertrain behaviour under realistic or severe conditions.
- Verification of post-start behaviour, temperature management, back-up strategy.
