Railway qualification
Guaranteeing the compliance, robustness and safety of your equipment
Why carry out railway qualification tests?
In a sector where reliability, regulatory compliance and passenger safety are paramount, the qualification of railway equipment is an essential step. It enables :
- Demonstrate compliance with railway standards (EN 50155, EN 50121-X, EN 50125-X, etc.).
- Obtain the CE marking to directives (EMC, RED, LVD, etc.) depending on the nature of the equipment.
- Validate the mechanical and environmental robustness of equipment.
- Guarantee electromagnetic and radio compatibility.
- Ensure electrical safety and fire resistance.
- Avoid critical failures during operation.
An approach that complies with European regulations and focuses on equipment
Our services for the railway sector fall within the scope of Regulation (EU) 2016/797 on railway interoperability when they concern equipment covered by TSIs (e.g. on-board equipment, sub-assemblies and components of fixed installations).
- Identification of the requirements applicable to the equipment tested (TSIs or, where applicable, other regulatory and normative requirements).
- Conducting environmental, EMC, climatic, mechanical and electrical compliance tests in our accredited laboratories for the purpose of equipment qualification.
- Support in compiling the technical file for CE marking of equipment, in accordance with the relevant directives (EMC, RED, Low Voltage, etc.), when the products do not fall within the scope of TSIs or are covered by these directives in addition.
Our rail qualification services
- Rolling stock: trains, locomotives, trams, metros, passenger trains.
- On-board equipment: electronic modules, mechatronics subsystems, telecoms.
- Fixed installations: signalling stations, sub-stations, external enclosures.
- Railway subsystems: cabling, power supplies, connected systems.
Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)
- Radiated and conducted emission and immunity tests.
- In situ tests for installed systems.
- Standards applied: EN 50121-3-2, EN 50121-4, EN 50121-5, IEC 62236.
- Tests in large Faraday cages up to 27×18×10.5 m.
Electrical safety
- Insulation, dielectric strength, earth continuity.
- Overvoltages, overheating, arc resistance.
- Fire resistance (glow wire, flammability).
- Compliance with Low Voltage directives.
Radio testing (RED directive)
- Qualification of radio equipment (GSM-R, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GNSS, IoT).
- Verification of spectrum conformity and radio interoperability.
Mechanical, climatic and physico-chemical environments
- Vibration, shock, mechanical fatigue (EN/IEC 61373).
- Extreme temperatures, humidity, thermal shock (EN/IEC 60068-2-x).
- Salt spray, immersion, dust (IP according to EN/IEC 60529), shocks (IK according to EN/IEC 62262), corrosion, etc.
- Accelerated ageing.
