Performance testing for electric motors
Evaluate and optimise the performance of your electric motors
Why carry out performance tests on electric powertrains?
- Determine the torque and power curve as a function of speed.
- Evaluate the overall efficiency of the motor alone or in a chain with its inverter.
- Check thermal performance at different speeds.
- Characterise the operating limits (speed range, peak torque, maximum temperature, etc.).
- Make comparisons between configurations or technologies.
What sectors are involved in these trials?
Our test methodology
1. Installation and instrumentation
- Mounted on a dynamometer with torque, speed, temperature, voltage and current sensors.
- Can be integrated with customer inverter or Emitech Group power supply.
- Cooling control (air, water, oil, dielectric fluid).
2. Test protocols
- Static characterization test: speed or torque step measurements.
- Dynamic characterization test: load rise, acceleration/deceleration cycles.
- Efficiency measurements over the entire useful operating range.
- Peak torque tests over defined durations.
- Regenerative braking tests (if applicable).
3. Data acquisition and analysis
- Real-time performance display.
- Mapping of operating ranges (efficiency, temperature rise).
- Detailed analysis using AVL Concerto, Matlab, Python and Excel tools as required.
